A Forgettable 2020!
January 7, 2020! Beaumont & District Agricultural Society (BADAS) members celebrated 30 years of existence at the 30th Anniversary Gala & AGM. Such a good start to the year, then in March – Boom! Something called “COVID-19 pandemic” hit. The 2020 year will forever be remembered as the year of COVID. Will anyone remember the promising start to our 31st year?
With first news of the pandemic, followed shortly by Government of Alberta COVID-19 restrictions and protocols, BADAS staff, Board members and event organizers were wondering “What will this mean for our planned events?” The first event to be cancelled was Beaumont Clinic & Derby, a good fundraiser for co-hosts BADAS and Clearwater Valley Pony Club (CVPC), scheduled for the 3rd weekend in May. Then Beaumont Town & Country Daze, including the Parade annually hosted by BADAS in June, was postponed to early September, then eventually cancelled.
Organizers chose to cancel Rural Roots Fair (RRF) 2020 early in the planning process because finding sponsors, critical to the success of this free event, became increasingly difficult as uncertainty mounted. Seven other equine events hosted by BADAS partners and clients were also cancelled in 2020. The only facility to remain open throughout was the Gerry Patsula Community Gardens (CPCG).
